Telegram signal delivery clocks and latency
Measure post, relay, display and quote boundaries with UTC intervals, uncertainty and a completed midnight example.

Name each clock before subtracting
Publication, relay acceptance, subscriber display, quote observation and broker acknowledgement are different events. A timestamp field without an event definition is not usable latency evidence. Record whether it is operator-supplied, platform-represented, device-observed or independently bounded. Keep the source precision and timezone rather than pretending every clock is synchronised to the millisecond.
A clock that records when a relay queued a message does not measure when a subscriber could see it. Similarly, an app delivery indicator is not a fill. The free delivery tool calculates intervals from declared UTC inputs; it cannot fetch message logs or certify that the input clocks are correct. Its arithmetic should be read beside the event definitions.
Use complete dates across midnight
Time-of-day arithmetic becomes ambiguous when a call and receipt cross midnight or a daylight-saving change. Preserve the date and a declared UTC offset. Do not compare a displayed local clock to a source UTC time without conversion. A negative interval can signal a mistaken clock, wrong date or mismatched message; it should not be rounded away to improve a delivery score.
If a source is precise only to a minute, a claimed subsecond ranking is not supported. The interval has uncertainty from both endpoints. Record the available precision and whether clock synchronisation was checked. A consistent observed order can still be useful even when an exact delay is not established.
Connect delay to the original validity rule
A delay matters differently to an immediate instruction and a longer-lived research view. Compare receipt with the original expiry or permitted price boundary. Do not create a universal maximum latency threshold for every instrument. A delivery path may be technically prompt while a quoted entry is unavailable; a later receipt may still be within a properly documented longer window.
Preserve the first quote boundary under the chosen observation rule and mark absent quotes as missing. Do not select the best later chart price to make the instruction actionable. Record the service-fit outcome separately from any account result, because a subscriber can receive an eligible instruction and choose not to place an order.
Report distributions without selection tricks
A single fast alert does not describe a delivery path. Define the complete expected message population, observation period, missing receipts and event types before summarising delays. Keep duplicates and amendments classified so they do not inflate the count of original calls. Report available observations and missing ones together rather than removing inconvenient outages.
A short prospective delivery observation is operational evidence, not proof of a long-term strategy edge. Different devices and connection states can yield different experiences. Avoid comparing one seller's source time with another seller's device display as if they were identical endpoints. A bounded packet states the exact interval measured and leaves unobserved legs unknown.
Completed fictional case
Fictional source time is 12 October 23:59:50 UTC, relay observation is 23:59:55, subscriber display is 13 October 00:00:20 and quote observation is 00:00:35. The inputs use full dates and the same declared clock basis.
Source-to-relay is 5 seconds; relay-to-display is 25; source-to-display is 30; source-to-quote is 45. If the source instruction expires after 40 seconds, quote observation is outside that fictional rule. This is a validity comparison, not a claim that a broker order would fill or lose.
| Record | Represented finding | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Source to relay | 5 seconds | Observed relay leg |
| Source to display | 30 seconds | Declared subscriber boundary |
| Source to quote | 45 seconds | Beyond fictional 40-second expiry |
